No More Auto Greeters
Firstly, I want to mention that this is totally my opinion on things. Everyone knows by now that I work as a model at three different stores so through that time I have noticed a few things. Before I even modeled I knew how I felt on the subject of auto greeters. Plain and simple is I don't like them. You are hired as a live model where you are expected to personally greet each customer that comes to the store. When I used to be just another customer at a store which I model at, I wouldn't even say hello back to the models who use auto greeters and I still pretty much ignore what those say. I do not feel welcomed by a model if they can't even type out a "hello". It don't take much effort type out someone's name except maybe the super long ones or the display names that you can't tell what the letters are. A simple solution to typing out the store name and that you are there to offer assistance is to make your own gesture to trigger it on whenever a customer comes by. I know because I used to type all of that out for each customer when I was in my first couple of weeks modeling but I quickly learned that just me saying "hey" to a customer is showing that I am here and its personal to help them. I don't know if the whole using a auto greeter is a way to disconnect from the customers but it kind of makes some customers feel like that. The biggest reason why people use auto greeters is so they can go away from keyboard and hopefully no one on staff will come by to notice that. I multi-task a little bit when I model but I try my hardest to type out the greetings as fast as possible. Have I thought of getting an auto greeter? There are times I wish I had one but then I remember how I felt as a customer being greeted constantly by them. You really have to be more personal when you use auto greeters. For example, the auto greeter will ticker off the welcome message to the customer's name so you should move onward to typing out a "hello" or "how are you?" which would make them feel you really there. Showing that you are there and care about their business makes you a better model. I rather have like three customers in my private message box asking me where items are or any other kind of help than have no one. It is why I will never own a auto greeter. Now auto greeters used at clubs is just off-the-charts lame because you are counting on tips at clubs so using one of those devices is going to kill your tips amount. At a club, your main mission is to socialize with the group as much as you feel is enough so more tips will come in for you and the DJ or live musician. I am amazed that auto greeters haven't been totally frowned upon by stores with models and at clubs. Trust me if I owned a club or store then that is the first thing on my list of things not to wear/use while working. No one wants me as a owner or manager because I may seem fragile but you get me in a leader role and I will be tough as nails.
