How to Un-Noob Yourself

I took a journey into the land of being a newbie in Second Life recently because I had forgotten what it took to get beautified and fit in with the masses. I went around the fashion blogs I have but all it really helped with was clothing. It has come where people I think realize that in order to find a shape and skin that will make their avatar be like so many around them is you have to buy or earn Lindens. However that shouldn't deter newbies to give up and quit Second Life since you can buy a decent good-looking complete avatar sets for only about 300 Lindens which amounts to about $1 USD real money. If you can't invest in at least 300 Lindens on Second Life then perhaps it is not the place for you. For those who can't buy the Lindens for any reason then luckily after your avatar is 30 days old you can begin to apply for virtual jobs. Hosting, DJing, or dancing jobs on Second Life will easily get you 300 Lindens to buy a nice complete avatar. Modeling is a good career on here too but you are required by most stores to have a pretty skin and shape first. You might want to buy it before you apply for a job though because like in the real world first impressions mean everything and in the virtual world impressions are based on the way your avatar looks. Most places won't hire someone who looks like a "noob". There is a great resource right at your fingertips that you not even have to be logged into a Second Life viewer to shop at. You simply go to The Marketplace that used to be called Xstreet when I first perused that site. Begin a search under Avatar Appearance and you will find complete avatars under that area. The skins and shapes in complete avatars that you will be looking for are the ones that say "Promo" or something to that effect. Nice skins can be found at stores for free or as hunt items but to find the perfect shape to make you happy and fit with most skins requires Lindens. I bought quite a few free shapes but I found that they basically made me look more "noob" than the shape I started with when I joined. It bad enough you are already tagged a "noob" even before you speak since you are stuck with the last name "Resident" so you have to step it up a notch nowadays to prove yourself. Being a female in Second Life has never been easy in my opinion. Once you have the perfect shape and skin then it is time to get rid of that damn "noob" walk which in Second Life we know is due to you not having an AO (animation overrider). An AO is your next ticket out of "noob" land and thank goodness there are kind designers out there that are willing to give away good moving AOs for free. I ended up grabbing approximately 5 free AOs to try out but only one of them shined about the others. A link will be provided to the AO I found to be the best for females below along with other links. Oh and top #1 way to not be called a "noob" in Second Life is to never ever ask other avatars for Lindens in public or in private. Long time Second Lifers really despise having another person bothering them for Lindens and some will actually try to report you. I am one of those people who either mutes you without a word or puts you in your place then mutes you. Anyway take your new jazzed up self with a decent starter AO and roam around the social scene of this world. You have to get your feet wet so to speak when you are in Second Life since that is what it is a social network in 3D. It is not always easy to socialize with other people when you new but give it time and you'll be fine. The best thing about Second Life is making new friends that will most likely be there for you no matter how old your avatar gets. This is my way of helping newbies because in-world I will not help newbies unless I am working somewhere. I apologize if anything I said above offended anyone but this is a blog and I speaking my opinions. Enjoy the land of Second Life and take lots of snapshots onto your computer because when your avatar turns a year old then you will be amazed how much your avatar has evolved. Trust me on that.
