All right so this subject has been on my mind for the longest time but I had forgotten about it until recently. I find it kind of insulting when I see like 3 clubs in one night have the theme of dress as neko. You can tell that the ones who run the events have never been a full time neko in their entire time on Second Life. People tend to treat it more like a contest theme than they do to respect it as a lifestyle choice on this realm. If you can’t respect how nekos feel when you have contests like that then don’t expect respectful nekos to come to those events. I don’t hate these clubs by any means. I just wish they would see nekos in a different light. Neko events should only be themed at clubs near neko stores or if neko items are being put up for grabs. The funniest part of such events is that the true nekos most times never win the contest when they enter it. It is like if you slap a tail and ears on for an event then that makes you neko. No I don’t think so. There is more to being a neko than just our tail and ears. You feel the nekoness flow through your veins in that real life you feel like a neko too without the tail or ears. I feel that clubs having tons of neko events should also have elf events often too. I mean let’s slap on some elven ears on then see how the elves on Second Life feel about their lifestyle being reduced to nothing but some contest theme all the time. I can think of tons of theme event ideas without ever having neko show up again. Seriously, enough already with those themes. It makes me know why so many people expect me to just take off my neko gear since people have no respect for the lifestyle whatsoever. If clubs need ideas for themes then ask me. Heck put me on the staff just to give theme ideas and pay me for it. I could use the Lindens. Be happy to make Lindens off of giving my ideas if it stops the whole neko themes altogether. Embrace the neko lifestyle for it is not just a 2 hour thing.

Ain't Happily Ever After
Many people tend to live in some kind of mirage when it comes to Second Life romances. Actually I should extend that to the entire online world since this is simply a portion of romance life that rarely extends into real life. Like you learned growing up is “Friends will come and go but family will always be there”. It is absolutely true in that statement. For those who have opened their hearts for love online can probably count on more than one hand how many significant others have left them through the years. I am no exception to this pain of giving then losing love countless times. Are there plenty of fishes in the internet sea? Yes there is. However, finding a fish that will swim for the long-haul is as hard as feeling a pea under a pillow of thousand pillows. You eventually give up trying for awhile until you get lonely being single. The whole point of getting close to a significant other online is in hopes that one day in the near future you both will meet in real life. Being with someone who will do that is rare even if you both live in the same state or close in mileage. If you find someone like that then you should hold on to them because that is a beyond special thing to have in your life. I haven’t been blessed with meeting someone special who would do anything to be with me in both worlds. Sure I have had guys say they would but let’s be honest here that it was usually to get what they wanted. Love is not a joy when you have to fight to get what you need or want in return. You come to the conclusion that without love being a two-sided street then you are better off being alone instead of being in a state of crying when the one you love doesn’t seem to care how you feel. Life can be rough enough without dealing with the pains of romance going sour. Sometimes it is good going solo and there are times when you need to be with another person to fulfill what your life is missing.

Dawn of the Display Names
Ahh the age of Second Life where everyone who joins now is stuck with the last name "Resident". The horror of it all. I am totally kidding and trying to get all of those who are stuck with that lame last name feel better. I have come to the acceptance of all these new people with last name "Resident" and not see it as a bad thing anymore. Don't go by what I write though because there are quite a few who will judge you right off simply by your lame last name you stuck with. Believe me if most of us who have these unique last names joined like about 180 days ago (I not sure the exact amount of days) then we would have "Resident" as last names too. I still stay away from people who look all noobish though like wearing the shape, skin, and clothes you had when you joined plus if you not wearing an AO just screams noobish to me. Saying all this brings me to the title of this blog post in which I express deeply how not only the "Resident" people but also most of us should start using that wonderful new thing in Second Life that is the display names. I cannot begin to tell you how I feel more myself since those display names came into effect. To be free of only the name you picked when you signed up for this realm is fantastic to say the least. You can change your name completely or slightly. I see a ton of people simply using their first names even though they diss the ones with last name "Resident" who only show as a first name. I know that is such a contradiction but you have to laugh at it all. People like myself have chosen to use ASCII characters to distinguish themselves when they change their display names. You can have cute little fonts and symbols in your name now. I used to have a first, middle, and last name for my display name all prettified but now I have dropped the last name so it looks nicer and shorter too. You'll meet people who change the display name seemingly every week which is their prerogative since this is Second Life and you can do pretty much anything you want. So I urge if not plead to the new people with last name "Resident" to use that display name feature and use it wisely. It will amaze you how it will transform how you are perceived on here. Escape your mundane last name on here and join the land of cooler last names as well as symbols of your choosing.
Careful When It Comes to SL Teens
I felt that I needed to touch on an important issue when it comes to Second Life especially since it is such a major part of the new life of this realm nowadays. Although most people know that teenagers roamed this world long before they were allowed on this one because for some reason they didn't think Teen Second Life was good enough for them. Adults like myself feared the day that the teen grid would be closed and an onslaught of teens would be taking over the main grid we all felt fairly safe to be adults with no worries. I have spent less time on Second Life in the past months and tend to only come on when I have a job to go to. However I have thankfully not dealt with anyone who has been acting like a teenager which most don't allow themselves to show off their age. Just because they don't seem like teenagers doesn't mean that you aren't in the midst of one. I've come to be extremely cautious in this virtual world in the knowledge that sadly a lot of people on here lie beyond belief. The one way to protect yourself when you get close to anyone is to test them in ways that will either make you relax knowing someone is most likely an adult or make you weary that they are a teenager. I usually start by asking them questions about their real life and usually that entails if they would be willing to show their real life picture or talk to you on some sort of messenger to show themselves to you at least once on a webcam. You cannot know if someone is an adult or not simply by voice chatting with them due to teens soundly quite adult. All you have to do is think back to when you were a teen and see that your voice has not changed that much since your teen years. As adults, we tend to forget all we would want to do as teens simply because we were told we weren't allowed to do such things. I think that is why teens were on the main grid before they were officially let into here. It used to be that I felt safest in adult labeled sims but believe me you ain't safe from teens on those sims either. I put the blame on teens accessing specially adult sims onto the heads of the ones who created Second Life. No I am not slandering them. If you go to account manager on the site then you will see that anyone who gets a premium account is automatically allowed into adult sims even though people who don't have premium are expected to use the age verification page. Personally I think that is biggest flaw in Second Life since they forget about our sanity and safety. Any teen can find a way to get a premium account which is in most cases illegal but like that ever stopped anyone when they desperate. I feel strongly that teenage users on Second Life should wear teen shapes to define themselves more as teens so we can know they ain't adults right off. They should also be honest and at least say they are a teen in real life in their profiles. No adult should go through the headache of getting close to a teen when they didn't know they were one in the first place. As mean as it will sound, Second Life main grid belonged to the adults first so we should get respect. I was taught decades ago to respect my elders so I expect teens on this grid to respect me and the other adults on here. When I speak of teens in this blog, I am pertaining to the ones who are under 18 years of age. I feel if you are 18 or 19 years old then you are considered an adult. I don't want anyone under 18 years old anywhere near me on Second Life unless you are an adult who is playing a child avatar which is totally different. I have written this blog for not only the adult users to read so they more cautious but also for the teens so they know not to lie to us adults. Teens have school to meet new friends and such but as adults it is sometimes harder to make new friends in real life unlike how simple it is at times online to meet new people. Just be careful out there while hanging out at clubs and such because who you think is honest to goodness an adult may not be.

Disclosure Message for My Blog
I want to remind those who read my blog that everything said is purely my opinion based on my experiences on Second Life. You are not forced to keep reading my blog so if anything offends you then I do ask that you move onto another blog to read. I will not censor what I talk about in this blog. I am known to already think of other people's feelings so I try to write my blogs first in a notepad then edit them before I post them to this blog. However if you do find something extremely offensive then post a comment under the post and we will see what I can do to tone it down a bit. I simply ask that you not write crude, nasty comments on my blog since many people read it. Thank you. Hope everyone enjoys reading my blog.
How to Un-Noob Yourself
I took a journey into the land of being a newbie in Second Life recently because I had forgotten what it took to get beautified and fit in with the masses. I went around the fashion blogs I have but all it really helped with was clothing. It has come where people I think realize that in order to find a shape and skin that will make their avatar be like so many around them is you have to buy or earn Lindens. However that shouldn't deter newbies to give up and quit Second Life since you can buy a decent good-looking complete avatar sets for only about 300 Lindens which amounts to about $1 USD real money. If you can't invest in at least 300 Lindens on Second Life then perhaps it is not the place for you. For those who can't buy the Lindens for any reason then luckily after your avatar is 30 days old you can begin to apply for virtual jobs. Hosting, DJing, or dancing jobs on Second Life will easily get you 300 Lindens to buy a nice complete avatar. Modeling is a good career on here too but you are required by most stores to have a pretty skin and shape first. You might want to buy it before you apply for a job though because like in the real world first impressions mean everything and in the virtual world impressions are based on the way your avatar looks. Most places won't hire someone who looks like a "noob". There is a great resource right at your fingertips that you not even have to be logged into a Second Life viewer to shop at. You simply go to The Marketplace that used to be called Xstreet when I first perused that site. Begin a search under Avatar Appearance and you will find complete avatars under that area. The skins and shapes in complete avatars that you will be looking for are the ones that say "Promo" or something to that effect. Nice skins can be found at stores for free or as hunt items but to find the perfect shape to make you happy and fit with most skins requires Lindens. I bought quite a few free shapes but I found that they basically made me look more "noob" than the shape I started with when I joined. It bad enough you are already tagged a "noob" even before you speak since you are stuck with the last name "Resident" so you have to step it up a notch nowadays to prove yourself. Being a female in Second Life has never been easy in my opinion. Once you have the perfect shape and skin then it is time to get rid of that damn "noob" walk which in Second Life we know is due to you not having an AO (animation overrider). An AO is your next ticket out of "noob" land and thank goodness there are kind designers out there that are willing to give away good moving AOs for free. I ended up grabbing approximately 5 free AOs to try out but only one of them shined about the others. A link will be provided to the AO I found to be the best for females below along with other links. Oh and top #1 way to not be called a "noob" in Second Life is to never ever ask other avatars for Lindens in public or in private. Long time Second Lifers really despise having another person bothering them for Lindens and some will actually try to report you. I am one of those people who either mutes you without a word or puts you in your place then mutes you. Anyway take your new jazzed up self with a decent starter AO and roam around the social scene of this world. You have to get your feet wet so to speak when you are in Second Life since that is what it is a social network in 3D. It is not always easy to socialize with other people when you new but give it time and you'll be fine. The best thing about Second Life is making new friends that will most likely be there for you no matter how old your avatar gets. This is my way of helping newbies because in-world I will not help newbies unless I am working somewhere. I apologize if anything I said above offended anyone but this is a blog and I speaking my opinions. Enjoy the land of Second Life and take lots of snapshots onto your computer because when your avatar turns a year old then you will be amazed how much your avatar has evolved. Trust me on that.
